I came across an interesting article that discusses mixed source--the attempt to find business models that mix open source and proprietary software\services.

I'm curious about mixed source from a consumer perspective. Our company has always used proprietary software because we can get commercial support from the vendor that makes the software. I'm curious about the way our company might transition to implementing mixed source solutions.
