I am a little late to this conversation, but I have only good things to say about Zend sales and support.

I am concerned whenever I have to upgrade to a new version, since that has never gone smooth for me.
The last time we upgraded, it failed and we called Zend for support. Our only option was a 1 year contract. We were able to solve our problem through email and forums without the contract. And since have not needed any support since then, it seems I made a good choice.

I would suggest you offer a per incident option at between 10 to 30 percent of the annual contract. When someone is under the gun, they are more than willing to pay for support, it's just a matter of finding the right price.

With the new version I understand the proxy server will be replaced with zend server. But will both continue to interact with the apache server without any need to change php code, right?
Also, you have a MYSQL install option, but we already installed it the old fashioned way. When upgrading to the new zend core/server, should I ignore the MYSQL install option since I have it installed? Is there any provision to upgrade MYSQl using the zend install procedure, or is that just for new installs?

subject: Re: [WEB400] Zend Support Is Relentless

You are right Aaron, Zend Server CE and Core are no charge, as is Zend
Studio thanks to our partnership with IBM. FYI, Zend Server will
supersede the current Zend Core product. The beta is currently running
at the link under my signature.

The original agreement with IBM was for a perpetual license of Core &
Studio. Silver support would run for 3 years from your first download.
The new agreement with IBM provides for the same perpetual license for
Core/Server CE and Studio but with Silver support for 1 year.
While the products will run perpetually, support will expire after the 1
year or 3 year window of the original agreement, depending on where you
are (It's by serial number folks). So anyone who has downloaded the
solution set since Feb 1, 2009 has 1 year of silver support. Once the
anniversary of the first download is over, the product will continue to
run but without support. For companies who like to have support for
mission critical solutions we are here. For those who don't feel the
need for support I offer a hearty Good Luck and we'll be here if/when
you need us.

I hope that answers the question, but I think the question will keep
popping up. The rhetoric on the emails has been less than ideal and we
are in the process of correcting that.

If you have any questions, please drop me a line and I'd be happy to
assist.
If you are aware of any correspondence that contradicts the information
above please let me know so we can address that directly.

Regards,

Mike
