Very good question Todd. Here's the thing. As you know, MySQL has its
own users and passwords separate from your IBM i profiles. What you may
not realize is that MySQL can have the same user name for more than one
profile. What makes a profile unique is the user name and the host. So
'root' @ 'localhost' (your command line access) and 'root' @
'www.myurl.com' (your site) can have completely different passwords and
authorities.
Go into your GUI tool. (I assume it is PHPMyAdmin) Look in the database
named "mysql". Find the table "user". If you browse the records, I bet
you will find more than one record for user "root" with different
passwords. Of course the passwords are encrypted, so you won't be able to
read them, but you will be able to tell if they are different. If they
are, and you don't know what the password is for 'root' @ 'localhost', you
can clear out the password field in the record and then it should let you
in without a password. BE SURE TO PUT A PASSWORD BACK ON THE PROFILE WHEN
DONE!!!
Hope that helps,

W have MySQL installed and running a few databases. I can connect using
the MySQL admin GUI tool just fine. However, I am denied access using
root

Any ides what I could be doing wrong?
