Agree. The iPhone Safari browser is very well done. It is
a pleasure to use.

I don't doubt that, but for the sake of this discussion I'd be interested in
using mobile browsers in the context of database navigation, perhaps in addition
to content navigation. In the case of Safari, I think it would help if you
could remove the address bar, or go into full screen mode, so that there might
be more room to insert application navigation, database browsing, and data
entry. Does Safari offer that?
The address bar is not a reserved, fixed area at the top of the screen but more "attached" to the top of the page shown, which then scrolls out of sight when you flick down on the page.

If you see this video you can see what happens when you scroll down the page and some dataentry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIhf0jpROwc.

The five icons at the bottom are back, forward, add (open submenu with: bookmark inside safari, icon with the other apps, forward per email), bookmarks, change page (up to 8 can be present, and you can see one at a time).

The onscreen keyboard is adequate but not great. The dictionary suggests a single word if it finds one which you can accept with space if you like it. I would not find it fun for large amounts of text, but you can these days attach a bluetooth keyboard if you need heavy data entry. The iPad should be better.

The built in GPS and various bar code scanner programs allows for easy data _capture_ without dat aentry. Scan a bar code and grab the GPS coordinates and the time, and you already have a lot of information without the user doing anything.

Basically I've found as a user that you cannot immediately transfer the mindset of a normal desktop application to an iPhone application as you need to reuse screen estate for both datapresentation and navigation.

Perhaps Niels will add his experiences? I think he is probably the programmer in here who has most practical experience with creating iP* applications.
