Couldn't you use something like selectCombo for jQuery v 1.2.3 (combo.js) plus populate.js. Combo.js handles the combo and when you make a selection populate fills in the fields on your page.

Or maybe there is something unique in your implementation that I am missing.

Does ASP/.net provide a reusable component to handle this "parent/child"
drop down list challenge or do you have to code for each occurance?
This "parent/child" pattern is common in a lot of business apps we run

parent, show the models (F150, Explorer)
