The IBMDB2I storage engine was introduced in MySQL 5.1.33 and

found here:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/se-db2.html

In addition, there's no reference to the IBMDB2I storage engine in the
MySQL 5.5 docs:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/storage-engines.html

That's very disappointing....I had hope to make use of it at some point.
Note the (C) Oracle on that page.

5.1.54 was released Dec 16th (http://forums.mysql.com/read.php?3,399392) and 5.1.53 back in November (http://forums.mysql.com/read.php?3,395491).

My personal theory is that Oracle is trimming MySQL to be an entry point database with a clear upgrade path to Oracle. Underlying DB2/400 tables do not fit in that scheme.
