I guess I am not familiar enough with non-IBM i FastCGI to answer that so I will leave that to the bit-twiddelers to respond. From my vantage point it appears pretty much intact. But as with anything IBM delivers, I do not think the source code is released for IBM i. The config files can be found in the default directory /www/zendsvr/conf.

Regarding FastCGI and PHP on IBM i. If you choose to use Zend Server, you WILL use FastCGI. Zend Core had two Apache servers and with Zend Server we no longer have the second Apache instance. So, with Core there is no FastCGI, nor is there PHP 5.3 or a life expectancy beyond June 2011. With Zend Server there is a future but only with FastCGI.

Anyone looking to roll their own PHP on IBM i can choose the implementation that makes the most sense to them. If I remember correctly, Rob Ward used ODBC to enable PHP to run in PASE and provide the connection to Apache and the web server. I'm not sure how that performed, but I believe it worked.

Do you have any concern with FastCGI on IBM i?

Mike

Does FastCGI for IBMi differ from non-IBMi?

Also, is it necessary for running PHP on IBMi?

On general principle, PTF early and often. But seriously, there are no
"formal" pre-req's for 7.1 as FastCGI is built in to the OS.

HOWEVER! FastCGI is new and IBM is creating PTF's for this on a regular
basis. So, it would behoove you to make sure you are current on ALL your
Group and Cumulative PTF's. I could give you a list but I am WAY too lazy
for that. Especially the group for PASE and HTTP. Please do not ask me
for a level because all I will do is go to the IBM website and tell you the
current level I see out there. Relax, it works. But like any new
technology there is always room for improvement. Plus, you already know
what kind of perfectionists those Rochester folks can be! :-)

On other releases V5R4 through i6.1.x you should only need to apply current
Group and Cumulative PTF's and the FastCGI PTF's should be included.

The command is WRKPTFGRP and the website is here:
