Or if you wanted you could fire up MySQL on the i and use the IBMDB2i storage engine to store the data in a library/file.
That way you would not have to muck around converting the MySQL syntax.

Or you could look in the Mantis/400 project to see how they have the storage engine selected by configuration file then use the appropriate commands behind the scenes, so you don't have to worry about the db in the actual project code.
