HTML5 and XHTML uses the same special build in entities as XML, the only
ones allowed in
XML are &, <, >, " and '

The rest of special char should be converted to unicode (UTF-8) &#nnn; or
passed as UTF-8
binary by setting the Apache server directive to pass EBCDIC data as UTF-8
(CCSid 1208)
instead of passing it as Apache default CCSid 819

Unfortunately CGIDEV2 dosn't meet the standard in the
encodeBlanks subprocedure that encodes
with   to any blanks (even though single blanks isn't nessecary to
encode) and the encode
subprocedure does nothing to blanks, arrays of blanks in front of, or in
between data.

Darryl,
Is the name inside of some element? Could you give the surrounding HTML?
Could you possible just align right? That would cause the spaces to the
left of the name...

Just a thought.

Subject
[WEB400] How do I preserve leading blanks in fields - Using CGIDEV2.

I am new to CGIDEV2 and have gotten a few programs up and running quickly.
Kudo's to Giovanni and company.

However, I have a new problem. The 1 field has alpha numeric data that is
right justified example __name. When the HTML gets the value, it strips
all
the leading blanks displaying name__.

How do I preserver the leading blanks?

I tried %20/%field_name%/ and /%%20field_name%/ which produced the wrong
results.

TIA
