WinRT in 2012

I think WinRT is going to be a big deal in 2012. WinRT is the foundation of
Windows 8. WinRT incorporates XAML for UI. XAML, which is the basis of WPF
and Silverlight is really good. WinRT will use skydrive for cloud storage
of data and app settings. Where every user logging onto a Windows 8 PC gets
space for data on skydrive. WinRT apps can be written using either
Javascript, .NET or C++. WinRT apps are siloed, meaning a Windows 8 PC will
be much less vulnerable to viruses than prior Windows desktop PCs. WinRT is
also likely to be the framework for windows phone and tablet devices. C#
5.0 will be released in 2012. Anders Heljsberg, the architect of C# is
totally brilliant. LINQ, which was introduced in C# 3.0 has become very
popular and useful. In C# 5.0 there will be new language constructs for
asyncronous programming. C# async enables the disjointed programming
pattern of calling a web service in one method and then processing the
results in a callback method to be automatically stiched together by the
compiler. What Microsoft and windows developers are anticipating is that
the processing power of phones and tablets will reach critical mass in 2012
and will enable WinRT apps to run on phones, tablets and the desktop.

Yeah, I tried that. I got as far as getting Leopard to boot in a VM,
just to see if it could be done. But in the end I couldn't get past a
couple of hurdles. First was the fact that I would have to learn
Objective-C. I really have no desire to re-learn Smalltalk. But the
real kicker was that I would have to pay Apple for the privilege of
running an application that I wrote on a device that I own.
