I went to a Java users group meeting on node.js a few months back. From what I recall, it is written in C.

Thanks,
Todd

I agree with this, but node.js is the technology I would like to see. Unfortunately, I think that'd be quite an effort because it's based on Google's V8 JavaScript engine and there's a lot of x86 specificity in that codebase.

Shoot, *I* can answer that: "Because it is there!". Well, no, actually, it is more of the IBM i platform being a secure, high performing server that can run all the latest languages and frameworks. If we are going to attract the under 40 set, we need to have a server platform that can natively run all the latest technologies "out of the box". Of your list of languages, only PHP and perhaps .Net would be attractive to the younger crowd. But Ruby and other languages and Rails and other frameworks are at the edge of forward thinking programmers. IBM i shouldn't be lagging, it should be leading when it comes to these programming options (IMHO).

You have RPG, PHP and Java and of course .Net.

Do you see any inherent benefits in terms of ease-of-use ?
