Re: e-signatures for order entry

What started this is the owner was completing some setup of a FedEx account
and went thru a special screen to confirm the order. I've not seen the results but
there was no real "signature". I'm not aware of a collection problem, but they do deal
with companies (construction) that go in and out of business.
I have thought just adding a capture of user id, ip, timestamp, and a unique generated string,
print that on the receipt & store for later reprint. might do it, but wanted to see what other's
have done. This is an order system written many years ago, & they see something FedEx
did, and want it in their system, but for little to no effort.

It seems to me that if they already log in and confirm an order there's not much else to do unless you want some other sort of PIN based system to authenticate them again on checkout.

May also want to log the source IP and ISP info.

There's also electronic signature software such as what we provide but that assumes a signing device, allowing electronic signature capture via a mouse or using our signature server component to authenticate a user.

Seems to me you're doing about as much as you need to do by making them authenticate and place orders.

What's really driving the request ? Has the customer been disputing orders ?

Looking for a simple solution for an existing i-based cgi site where customers place multiple orders within a month, and owner interested in some form of "e-signature" for each order. Customers billed on a monthly statement, not a payment on each order. I've googled for some time, seen lots of variation, and some just marketing hype.
Anyone had similar request and how solved? Would have to meet some minimal level to be valid in a small claims court. There is already a large legal statement and an "I Accept" button, and customers have a unique id to log in & place orders. Approx 3 to 5,000 orders per mth, from 10-$50 each (so a $5 per order external contract svc out of the question).
