I always forget about that.

wow. Thank you for this tip. :) I did as you suggested (except the
sitemap link was more than I could understand. However, I did add an
account at Google Webmaster Tools and it is giving me information I have
never had.

You and Kevin shook up my world and I appreciate it. Thanks.

The best resource is Google Webmaster Tools. See:
https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools

Set up an account for free there and then add all your sites within your
account. Create a sitemap (see http://www.sitemaps.org/) and submit it
to Google in GWT. You'll get stats like duplicate content, crawl errors
(pages not found), crawl stats, search queries where your site showed up,
inbound links, etc. There is a ton of info. at your fingertips there.

Search engine optimization (SEO) to get your web site found in the
search engine result pages (SERPs) can be very challenging. I'm assuming
you want to pursue organic SEO where you're not paying for ads or inbound
links and want people to find your site naturally. Start with some keyword
research. In other words, what words do you want people to search for and
find your site. Here is a good guide for keyword research:
http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo/keyword-research

After you have your keywords then optimize your site content for those
keywords. Sprinkle them throughout your page titles, content, etc. Don't
go overboard or you will be penalized.

I hope that helps.

Thanks,
Todd

Sounds more like a search engine optimisation question than a web 400
question. Have you done any research into search engine optimisation
(bearing in mind there are considerably more engines than google out there)?

Hi,

I wanted to get into the web and have now done 3 basic websites
todate. One with Wordpress, one with Drupal and one from scratch using
php and mysql. I can select text on each of the sites and google it no
problem. Now, I want to get more serious and I'm working on a small
business site using Drupal. I didn't really care or need Google to
reference my first 3 sites, but obviously I do for this new one. So
guess what, Google doesn't find it. Why would it find the first 3 but
not the last? I haven't knowingly done anything to get noticed by
Google.

Thanks
