FWIW....

We recently had a customer request similar to what you are asking.  Parts
related inquiry.  After digging deep into HTML 5 and SVG AND getting the ok
to move the app fully to the web, you are able to create parts applications
like this:

(hover over parts or hover over subfile of data)  (data is from AS400 DB)

If you can get them to enable browser interfaces, SVG is pretty powerful
for interactive parts apps.
