Personally I don't see why using an iFrame should be ruled in or out of an SPA. Almost every browser based application these days can be labelled an SPA assuming it uses JavaScript and xmlhttprequest for navigation - but there may well be numerous reasons for throwing an iFrame into the mix. We have never needed to as it happens, but it's not difficult to think of a "use case" that would justify it. We use our own framework for our applications (using jquery, backbone.js and require.js under the covers).

Nathan,

Nathan,

I've never read anything that says you can't use iframes in SPAs.

Is it a good idea? I don't have the experience to answer that. Maybe someone else can answer it.

Thanks,
Kelly

Google's Gmail has been an SPA since 2004.

I just did a Chrome inspection of Gmail and noticed that it uses a lot of <iframe>s. Does that qualify as a "single page application"? I use <iframe>s too, just wondered if that would disqualify as a SPA?
