I wouldn’t (use SQL). I build all lists of that nature in memory for
conventional subfiles.

How do you handle complex filter and order by criteria? In the case of
smart phones the criteria might include screen dimension & resolution,
internal storage & RAM sizes, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Infrared, GPS, Operating
System, physical dimensions & weight, Camera Megapixels, CPU, USB, Audio &
Headphones, Accelerometer, etc.

Download all the details in the JSON array for local processing? Download
entire result sets to a JSON array all at once? I would rather suggest
incremental downloads as requested.

Problem with rebuilding is the data can have changed - confuses the hell
out a user who was looking for a specific entry <grin>

Sorry, that seems like a non-issue. Users enter or select filter and sort
criteria with the expectation that the results will change.
