I'll take issue with all but one of the points:

1) I was able to deploy wordpress inside Zend Server with a couple of button clicks and a small amount of information filled in. Almost the same with any other server.
2) The backplane on a POWER system is faster in total than 90% of the server boxes out there so a bandwidth limit is false, POWER provides as much or more bandwidth than any other server.
3) Firewall issues are no different for IBM i than any other system. Totally false statement.
4) There is some issue with the plug ins on IBM i but that should not in and of itself be a disqualifier for IBM i to host your WP system.
5) The integration effort with a CMS is no different with IBM i than any other box, in fact if it's all in one place it's easier

So in the end the only point with any minor significance is the plug in issue. One that could be solved and I prefer to not do automatic updates anyway.

Thanks for the reasons. I don't disagree with any of them depending on the scenario.

Some things to think about...

At some point IBM i shops have to get over the fear of opening a port on their firewall. Also, bandwidth shouldn't normally be an issue if the business chooses a right strategy for loading static resources (i.e. Amazon
S3 for images, PDFs, etc).

for several reasons.

- with most hosting companies you are able to install WordPress or
other by pressing a botton.

- you get more bandwidth and are able to close down you IBM I for
maintenance or test.

- you have no problems with your firewalls

- any plugin will work

- you can easely integrate IBM I business pages into the CMS

Personally I have never understood why people place their WP (or

For some time now we have been wrestling with trying to find
out
why
our
WP site was automatically updating itself, but that all
plug-ins
failed
during the last step of the update for no obvious reason.

We have spent many hours and $s on this without resolution and
have
had
to
resort to manually updating the plug-ins.

Why am I mentioning this? Because after the last round of
updates a
number
of features on the site stopped working. Password resets, blog
post notifications, etc. It turns out that the WP update
process has
been
“lying” to us - the main wP software was no actually being
updated
it
just
said it was. As a result we appear to be in a situation where
the
plug-ins
are for a more recent version of WP than the one we were
actually
running!
The net appears to have been that various functions failed.

We have now manually updated the main WP software and most of
the
“broken”
functionality is working again - not all of it and we suspect
that
database
corruption during the mis-match period may have caused this -
we’re
still
working on it.

So - this is just a heads up to any of you using WP that you
may
not
be
as
up-to-date as you think! And that may lead to other problems later.
