With wizards, it's all about the interview.  In my opinion a well designed interview, asking the right questions, in the right order, and from the user's point of view, makes or breaks a wizard's usefulness.

When Wizzards work they are awesome.

When they don't (especially when you don't realise it did not work) you
can waste so much time !!!

Since IBM updated the wizzard to allow parameters to be changed we have
had only success with it - mainly SOAP services though.

But I definitely agree that an understanding of the files generated by the
wizzard and the way to administer from the text file editing will benefit
greatly in understanding how it all works.
