To speed things up the Apache server can be configured to call a program at startup. Apache then issues a GET with a specific url: init=yes and that is taken care of at the beginning of this program.
This is not foolproof however, as the init call does only happen at server startup, never when the server later starts additional worker jobs. When additional jobs are started initialisation takes place in the first served transaction.
Further analysis about program startup time reveals that most of the time spent is for the RPGLE programs to open files the first time they are called.
