Thanks for the help.  Will a pointer to void work okay?  For example

void main( void )
{ for( State = Beginning; State != 0; State = State() );
}

void *Beginning( void )
{ return Middle;
}

void *Middle( void )
{ return Ending;
}

void *Ending( void )
{ return 0;
}
