We did not map the /user drives to the ifs.  We left them on the NT server.  
Their id file is stored on the NT server.

I agree with your options.  The issues arise primarily because they are
used to a 'simple' email solution (cc:Mail) where ID files are not
necessary.  

In you WinTerm/Citrix solution, did you map the  /user drives to the
IFS?
