Isn't the policy controlled by something other than Domino? For instance
we looked at software that would scan for certain words and perform
actions. As an example, if the document contained the word resume then it
might be forwarded on to HR. Of course, if someone sent me an email with
"How did you get the program to resume running?" then that too would get
forwarded on to HR.

Often I've sent mail to these lists and some of the recipients would get
the email blocked and I would get a notification. Perhaps it was one of
the times that I was a little thoughtless and sent an email with a word
like "I think that person is an a$$ (spelling)". Other times I had to
really search for why it was rejected. Often the rejection notice to the
sender will drop a hint like "objectionable words".

I don't know the sequence.

I am using spamhaus and don't seem to be having the issues you've
reported.

I've thought about changing my email address. If you change jobs, or add
a new person, I don't recommend using a simple name like
sam@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx The spammers shotgun all the simple names. Perhaps
the porn fiend should change their email address. We also have software
that blocks which sites that I can go to. They're pretty liberal here.
Sports and whatnot is not blocked. Porn definitely is. The only thing
that bummed me is that I couldn't check my lottery tickets at work because
the state lottery site was blocked (gambling).

Re: Blacklist statistics

I've been using the blacklist feature as illustrated below (as you can
see,
we do not deal with the volumes you have, but it is none the less
annoying). This is great, but I still get so many porn emails for one of
our users who inadvertently clicked in the wrong place once or twice, and
I
currently have about 100 domains in my deny field and I am pretty sick of
opening the emails to see the address to block. Do you have any ideas?
When I used spamhaus there were almost no emails coming through at all.
Everything was blocked.

 SMTP.DNSBL.bl.spamcop.net.Hits = 75
 SMTP.DNSBL.relays.ordb.org.Hits = 1
 SMTP.DNSBL.TotalHits = 76
 SMTP.MessagesProcessed = 128

What is the sequence for rejection? Is the blacklist site the first
filter, and then any fields in the Restrictions and Controls, and then the
Rules?

And I've also had what are perfectly good emails rejected for policy
reasons, but I can't find out which policy they are being rejected for.

Any input would be appreciated.

Sharon

Re: Blacklist statistics

Just thought I'd let you know how it's going:

SMTP.DNSBL.blackholes.easynet.nl.Hits = 737
SMTP.DNSBL.bl.spamcop.net.Hits = 665
SMTP.DNSBL.relays.ordb.org.Hits = 11
SMTP.DNSBL.sbl.spamhaus.org.Hits = 56
SMTP.DNSBL.TotalHits = 1469
SMTP.MessagesProcessed = 2296

Still seem to be getting my share of Nigerian Scams.
