I think what is happening is that most software utilities, Domino 
included, already do the best they can with compression in their files. 
For example, if you were to take a 20 page document and type it in 
NOTEPAD, you'll find it takes a lot more space than if you typed it up in 
Word.

I use Tivoli Storage Manager, an older version, which allows me to store 
the pc backup into pf's in a library versus IFS.  That is by far our 
biggest library on the system.  I get no compression when I save those 
files off to media.  And that's because they're already compressed.

Now, if XML really takes off you'll start seeing a lot more compression in 
the IFS saves.  And that will be because XML is as about as uncompressed 
as it gets.
