How long have you waited since you started your server?

Sometime,If you see "WRKDOMSVR, the server shows up with status
*UNKNOWN.", you may not have rights to view it.
Is your user profile ALLOBJ?

Do you see any jobs under QNOTES running?

If QNNINSTS and SERVER are running, the server may be running consistency
check on all of the Databases.
This can take a long time to start up, and /or you may have a corrupt
names.nsf or other files. Even the Log.nsf
can prevent domino from fully starting. I would rename the log.nsf to a
.bak file. Domino will create a new one when it starts.

If you have a corrupt names.nsf, you can FTP it off and run fixup with
another client or server with a client and ftp it back.

I assume you started TCP right?

You can call me for additional help at 201-694-2430 if you need it.

Scott,

These are the last 4 lines on WRKDOMCSL:

09/22/2004 07:42:10 AM Periodic full text indexer starting, performing
hourly full text indexing
09/22/2004 07:43:13 AM Periodic full text indexer terminating
09/22/2004 07:46:28 AM Searching Administration Requests database.

The power went down right about that time yesterday (looking around the
Notes data directory, we found some files that were touched a few minutes
later, but that was it). As you can see, that was yesterday morning. IPLed
the system yesterday at about 11:00 am, and again about 6:00 pm (yes, we
were having a _lot_ of fun yesterday ;-), but nothing seems to show up on
the console.

On the other hand, we found a file called fault_recovery.log that has the
following (these are the last entries):

Wed Sep 22 11:04:05 [13] ERROR: Message queue failure: DESTROY
Wed Sep 22 11:04:05 [13] ERROR: Message queue failure: INIT
Wed Sep 22 11:04:05 [14] *** FAULT RECOVERY DISABLED ***
Wed Sep 22 11:04:09 [15] Running external script: CALL QNOTES/NSD
Wed Sep 22 18:04:52 [13] ERROR: Message queue failure: ADD ITEM
Wed Sep 22 18:04:52 [13] ERROR: Message queue failure: INIT
Wed Sep 22 18:04:52 [13] ERROR: Message queue failure: ADD ITEM

Wed Sep 22 18:04:52 [13] ERROR: Message queue failure: ADD ITEM
Wed Sep 22 18:04:54 [15] Running external script: CALL QNOTES/NSD

Maybe that helps?

When the server starts, those files are created. If you try to start the
server again while it's active it checks for the existence of those files
-- if they exist it won't start. That's why you should remove the files
while the server is down. Starting the server then should recreate
them...

When the server has an abnormal termination an NSD file should be created
in the data directory. File should be called NSD_datetimestamp. The NSD
file from when the power died probably won't mean anything but if there
was an NSD file created during any of your attempts to restart that may
tell you/us something.

Should also be able to display via green screen doing a 5 next to the
STMF.

NSD files aren't very easy to read and have only helped me a couple time
to identify problems.

You can email me the NSD file offline if you wish and I'll take a look...

Michael,

We have had this happen a couple of time (Domino R6.5 on v5r2) with the
following results...

1) Try to end the Domino server with the ENDDOMSVR command, if that fails,
2) Attempt to end the Domino server with the ENDDOMSVR command and specify
the OPTION(*IMMED) option, if that fails,
3) Attempt to end the subsystem running Domino with the ENDSBS command, if
that fails,
4) Attempt to end the subsystem running Domino with the ENDSBS command and
specify the OPTION(*IMMED) option.

On occasion, if these 4 options do not properly shut down the Domino
server, you may need to IPL the system. We spent a good bit of time with
an IBM support tech trying to figure out why it would hang up so bad that
we could not even end the subsystem. BTW, if you cannot end the
subsystem, you will most likely not be able to power down the system
controlled, but instead need to execute a PWRDWNSYS OPTION(*IMMED).

I know this may sound a bit extreme, but it only reflects our experience.

Good Luck.

Thank you,

Option 5 would be after waiting a minimum of 10 minutes after option 4 you
can try ENDJOBABN on each of the jobs. However it WILL have an affect on
ptf application during your next IPL.
