There are still tons of legacy applications around written in COBOL, PL/1, Assembler, FORTRAN, REXX and lots of other applications using ISPF/PDF, CICS, IMS and other old systems. No system is ever truly retired. Don't see any reason to get rid of Domino. It will just be blended into other offerings from IBM. IBM itself would have to get rid of Domino internally first along with tons of large companies. The product makes money for IBM and already works well with IBMs J2EE offerings. As with anything in technology or life you should always continue to learn. I already know JAVA and Websphere inside and we are integrating it all over the place. We will have a full blown deployment here in a few months and are already running a few apps that user the best of domino and Java. Domino will eventually freeze. Not sure when that will be. Even if version 8 is the last one, Domino will still have its place. After all it is cheap, and relatively easy to work with compared to other tools out there.
