Create a folder called personal address books and replicate the PABs
there, so they can get backed up.

You can change the file name to the user short name if you want so you can
keep track of it.

subject: PAB Backup question

Newbie type question here. R6.5.1 on V5R2.

Most of our Notes users have a PAB (personal address book) on their pc.
Last week, we had a pc lose a drive and that user lost their PAB. The
question posed to me is 'why isn't the personal address book stored on the

server (with their mail, calendar, to-do etc....)? I've often wondered why

the PAB isn't part of the mail file.

Anyway, my thought is to replicate each user's PAB to the server -
however...

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't the domino directory residing on
the server also named names.nsf? And if anyone were to replicate their
names.nsf wouldn't this corrupt the domino directory?

Anyone have any input to offer or solutions to share, or links to shed
more light on the subject? I've done considerable searching on the net and

haven't much addressing this issue. My goal, ideally, is to have all user
pab's backed up on the domino server with the least amount of user
intervention.

Regards, Jerry

Roaming user profiles. That creates a image of the pab on server.

I don't know that I would want to do it, but you do not have to have the
same filename on the server replica as you do with on the workstation
replica. Or you could create a folder for each user and replicate their
address book into their folder rather than replicating to the root, where
the Domino directory resides.

If you use iNotes, the address book can be synchronized into the mail file

-- that's how it is made available to the iNotes client. Actions - iNotes

Web Access - Synchronize contacts in the ND6 client. I haven't tested
what happens if I try to synchronize down to an empty address book after a

system crash, but it's worth a try. That option would require the least
administration, I believe.

Gerald:

We replicate everyone's PAB to the server, to the PAB folder. One, it
helps with your issue, two, not all of our users are iNotes users, and
three, need to make a global change to Connection or Location Documents?
Make the change in the PAB's (scripting it of course <smile>) and they all

get replicated back to the users.

HTH.

All:

We are running Domino 6.5 on V5R2. All of the jobs are in Priority 20, and

running in *BASE. We have seen times when the iSeries comes to virtual
standstill, and the Domino Router task is taking 60-90% CPU utilization. I

have asked if we are running the current PTF's for our release, and am
waiting for that answer. In the meantime, if anyone has any guidance, it
would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Consider adding the following statement to your Notes.ini if you have not
done so already.

        PercentAvailSysResources=<some percentage>

By default each Domino server believes that it has access to 100% of the
system's resources.

I found this in the RedBook for Domino 6 for iSeries Best Practices Guide.
