Rob,

I didn't mean that the Archive wasn't accessible. Just that it wasn't as "convenient" as the users _think_ it should be.

I personally don't like the idea of a PDA and a phone in one box. I spend too much time working in my TX at the exact same time as talking to someone on the phone. I program for the Palm products and if I had to combine it would on the Treo line.

On 8/11/2008 2:10 PM, rob@xxxxxxxxx arranged the binary bits such that:
1 - Archive. Well, just because you archive their email doesn't mean they cannot access it. We archive our users email to another server so it's still online. Makes the saves, compacts, etc on the primary server run faster. The goal was to get cheaper disk on the archive server. But the performance of the Windows platform was no where near comparable to our 90 disk arm i so the archive server was moved back to the i.

2 - IXS. We were a big IXS shop. Had 9 in one lpar. Until IBM dropped support for most IXS cards (and all of ours) on power hardware. Tried iSCSI but couldn't get the performance. Went to NetApp.

3 - We use a Blackberry server running on a Windows based Domino server. Boss and others think it's great. A coworker, whose opinion I value, said that the blackberry is great if you are doing more emailing than phoning. But if it's vice versa, keep the Treo. She went back to Treo. I stayed on Treo.
