Matt,
I'm a bit lost here. All you use Lotus Notes for is mail and you have
no in-house Lotus Notes expertise so you want someone else to host. I
get that. Using Lotus Notes/Domino just for mail is the proverbial "I
only drive my Ferrari to the grocery store". But you now need apps.
As a result of this, you're moving to Google Apps. Wait, what?
Who is going to write your apps using Google Apps? It's not likely
your in-house guys have a ton of Google Apps experience. Couldn't you
have just gotten them Notes Dev/Admin training? Of course you could
hire an experienced Google Apps guy. But for the same money you
couldn't you have hired a Notes dev/admin and kept your mail on the
AS/400. You're going from 24x7 uptime to this:
