Alan,

In this particular case, there is one, and only one system API I need 
access to.  I have a Java servlet that needs to call this system API, 
which is written in C (I presume).  Could I write the wrapper in RPG and 
then use cgi to get access to it?  Perhaps. This started out with a 
simple need: Call this one API from the Java servlet that needs it.  It 
just ended up being more complex than I had anticipated.

Had the whole thing been an RPG solution, I would have taken a different 
approach.  Maybe I still will.  If you have an example of exposing a 
system API as a REST service, let me know.  REST services are easy to 
call from Java.
