I do not think 5.5 has IFM capability, but I set up a medical device firm
with offices in Costa Rica, Chile & Argentina in 1 environment employing the
EPDM feature of 7.0 with the IFM module installed.
Security is per site. If you did not want someone to see data in another
country, security is just like plain vanilla MAPICS as to who you authorize to
inquire, data enter or file maintenance @ each site.
All 3 countries had different currencies which with IFM were converted to US
dollars for the headquarters finance geeks on line realtime if necessary.
Once again..5.5 may not have this ability,....and you need EPDM

Jon,
I'm with Pete O. on this one. I think you would find it a lot cleaner to
have a separate environment (sharing the AMALIBx). Simpler on security, and
all around easier to manage. And you already know how to manage multiple
environments. At my prior employer, for a couple years we added a product line
that was run separate from the rest of the company (that area ran as a
demand-flow shop, unlike the rest of the plant), and it was a lot easier to keep
things separate with two separate environments. It was easier for the
accounting function also.
We looked hard at setting up a separate company, but decided it would be
harder with all the reporting changes and all - the hundreds of queries and such
were all done assuming company 01. We didn't want to have to deal with all
that - separate data libraries were easier to manage.
