I assume you are using some kind of twinax adapter. Most twinax "hubs" or "star panels" I've worked with don't care where a device is plugged in - as long as there is no address conflict. So you can have devices plugged in 0,1,2,3,4,5,6 or 2,5,6,0,1,4,3 or whatever as long as each device on a port has a unique address. So I'd plug the three data jacks into adjacent addresses slots on a port and assign the laptop the lowest address. e.g. Dataport A, B, C plugged into port 1 "addresses" 0,1,2, device set to address 0. Hopefully, if you keep your panel neat, this will prevent someone from sticking anothewr address 0 device into that port (which would generate an address conflict). So if you are plugged into A,B or C, the device is always address 0. Of course, if the ports are full, you will blow three slots on one device, however you're only using one device (I assume the other two data jacks are unused when not plugged into the lap top) towards the workstation controller maximum of 40. cherik@execpc.com wrote: > We currently attach all the PCs to the AS/400 using CA and Personal > Communications so we can use virtual printing, save PC files to the > AS/400 etc. There is no network involved.
