I don't know if something like Hawkeye or Probe/Abstract can help here, 
that is what most people use. IBM has a tool call ADS/400. It is a pretty 
nice tool, but performance isn't a good as Probe/Abstract. The reason is 
that ADS/400 uses standard IBM outfile support, where as the other tools 
use low-level interfaces.

ADS/400 does provide a browser-like technology that allows you to look as 
the source from an object reference. It also has a recompile feature.
