File transfere with FTP to a PC

I'm trying to transfer a fixed length file to a PC.  When I get this file to 
the PC using FTP it is no longer fixed length.... Example 80 characters.  The 
carriage return is place after the last character of the record.

Is there a way to get the file down to a PC with a fixed length of 80?
