We experienced many of the same problems with CA/400 or 95/NT 3.1.2 that 
you describe.  We were able to attribute most of the instability problems to
the Netsoft Router.  We switched to TCP/IP over Ethernet and the situation has
improved dramatically.  Can't say that it never crashes, but it is much more
stable if you get rid of the router.   Hope this helps.
