Disclaimer: My SLIP experience is limited to PC/unix stuff, and includes no AS/400 implementations. This is while connected to the ISP? Remember, SLIP is a point to point IP connection over serial lines, hence Serial Line Internet Protocol and the AS/400 referring to it as Point-to-Point TCP/IP. This means it works over a serial line connecting (in your case) the laptop over a serial line to the AS/400 directly: no ISP, no router, no nothin' inbetween except serial devices, such as a pair of modems and a phone line. In short you should be dialing straight into a modem plugged into your 9401. GENERALLY, this is used the other direction: The AS/400 dials in to the ISP, and becomes a a leaf node on the ISP's network, at least on the serial line. (I don't know if the 400 is multihoming (able to have multiple IP addresses depending on the line used), but the manuals don't seem to imply that it is. If you're connecting to you ISP using SLIP, you need to use the IP addresses on the local and remote lines that your ISP gave you, not the ones assigned to your TR line. If you're using the laptop to dial straight into the modem on the 400, then the local IP address will be the 400's normal IP address, and the remote will be the IP address of your laptop. Peter H.
