This depends on "which" machine you have the controller hooked "to"...

The older machines do support "full" number of devices, while
the newer machines have a different type of controller and the
problem comes when you attach older controllers to new machines...
commonly called SPD type controllers....

Remote controllers are NOT affected by the processor type or model....
I don't have any knowledge of Perl controllers, so can't help there....
