Eric

At my previous job we deployed around 85 IBM 43xx printers. 4312's
4317's and 4324's.

Personally I think they are one of the best solutions available for
printing from a variety of hosts to a network attached printers.

We configured ours to accept print from MAC's, UNIX systems, AS/400's,
Novell servers, NT servers, and we even installed print drivers on some
PC's to print directly to them via TCP/IP.... We installed IPDS and
PostScript SIMM's in all the printers too. They came with PCL.

One thing you want to make sure you do though is to configure the
printers with enough memory. Especially if you plan on using IPDS. We
put a minimum of 20-22 MB of RAM in each printer.

I just love the duplex feature too. From the AS/400 I was able to
specify MULTIUP(2) DUPLEX(*YES) for a spool file and get 4 logical pages
on one sheet of paper. It is a great way to cut down on paper usage.

I don't think you will be disappointed with the 43xx printer solution.
This is something IBM did right, just like the AS/400.....
