On the AS/400 you can check with multiple steps: 1) DSPSFWRSC look for 57xxTC1 - TCP/IP utilities. You can delete this with the menu GO LICPGM. Personally, I'd shed tears. 2) A less drastic step is to use the command NETSTAT. If you get the message "Not able to complete request. TCP/IP services are not available." then TCP/IP is not running. If you get a screen with actual data then you can use the command ENDTCP to end all TCP/IP services. While we have to pick and choose our battles, and TCP/IP may be a battle you are willing to forfeit in order to win the war, I might question the boss on the phobia. TCP/IP is packed with exit points to monitor. If you don't have the resources to deal with this now there are companies dedicated to providing code for every exit point IBM makes. Check IBM's web site. There are times when we can't get to our remote sites with SNA but we still can with TCP/IP. Passthru is buggy with SNA. Often we can only go from one system to the other but not vice versa without an IPL. But TELNET will work like a champ. Sidetrack. This IPL response is getting out of hand with IBM. Can't end a printer writer? Their response "Uh, do you run 24x7?". Can't get an INZTAP to end? "When can we IPL?". subb3@ibm.net on 09/23/98 06:37:20 AM Please respond to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com@Internet To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com@Internet cc: Subject: TCPIP or APPC How I find out if a AS/400 is using any TCPIP network.? The customer I am working with has a policy i.e. the only connectivity to AS/400 is via APPC network. Yet, on a Unix box I saw some FTP scripts that are used to upload/download data to a AS/400. My responsibility is for a few AS/400 boxes (there are many) only and I want to know if TCPIP networking is allowed and used by them. If they are not used, then I would like to disable all TCPIP commands (telnet, ftp etc.). Any help or pointers is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
