Why do all of the CODE/400 service jobs run in a work station session.
Seems like IBM could have designed CODE/400 so it did not use an
Interactive job (We have seen CFINT1 kick in when downloading lists of
objects for Code/400). We are using a Server model, and Code/400 so we do
not use AS/400 cycles while editing, but still pay a penalty when
downloading, uploading and verifying code.

Rob,

I wouldn't call you cynical. The CFINT1 job is a throttle on
interactive. But remember, when the server model was purchased, it
was as a screamer batch processing machine. And should have been sold
as such...with heavy emphasis on the interactive penalties (I am not
saying this is how they are sold, only how they SHOULD be sold).

For the same amount of batch horsepower, the server models are a lot
cheaper than an equivalent "regular as/400". If you are doing server
tasks such as HTTP, ODBC, etc., you get a lot of bang for the buck.
Or if the machine will be used for other heavy batch work...such as
compiles (eg: A Development system). But for most companies (but not
all), it makes a poor primary production machine.

If this interactive penalty can not be lived with, then don't get a
server model!

Note: A batch job is any job that does not show INT under the Type
column of WrkActJob.

Call me cynical but what processor are you running? I am suspecting
you
are using a server model. Some coworkers and I only see this beast on
server models. We strongly suspect that this is a govenor that IBM
put on
them to kill heavy interactive usage. I hope I don't come off as too
big
brother.

Subject: What is task CFINT1??

This morning I was trying to solve a customers performance problem and
found the task CFINT1 in WRKSYSSTS as the culprit. This task was
consuming 60-80% of all CPU for over an hour. There were no QSYSOPR
messages, no problem logs, no disk problems or excessive activity, no
communications lines in other than ACTIVE state.

What is this task or where can I find out more about it?

TIA
