To me, it's difficult to answer that question in such an absolute manner. Are 90 percent of our applications written in RPGIII? Yes. Is most "new" development done in RPGIV? Yes. The way the poll was worded, I had to answer RPGIII since we've got all this code. I'd be willing to bet that most shops don't have the time, resources, or need to completely convert all their apps. I've decided to wait on conversion til I have need to do so. I'm not being lazy, just practical. The old phrase "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies in full force here, and I'd be hard pressed to explain such an action. If the question had been worded "What language do you prefer to code in?", then I'd have to say RPGIV. eric.delong@pmsi-services.com ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: *** ADMIN: Ok, one more time, a POLL on www.midrange.com Author: <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com > at INET_WACO Date: 11/23/98 5:29 PM What no option to say that Java is my primary language ?? <grin> Bit saddened to see that so many people are still using RPG III as the primary language though. With RPG IV being so compatible it really is hard for me to understand why people wouldn't use it. Perhaps that's the topic for the next survey David - to find out why !! +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +--- +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
