Keeping Writers Writing

Background:

We send many reports to PC printers during our night time batch process and
more than occasionally we lose connection with them.  When you take a retry
on the msgw the writer ends and must be restarted.  After it is restarted,
everything is fine.  I have been testing the RTVCFGSTS to see if it started
etc.  However, if the writer is up and running or has msgw it returns code
60 - Active.

Question:

Is there a way to automated way to check if there is a msgw and restart the
writer?
