        I think CCA170.LINK400.COM has to be known to the world and not just
to your AS/400.
If someone typed in userid@CCA170.LINK400.COM as an e-mail address, and
CCA170.LINK400.COM is not known to any domain name server, how is the mail
going find the userid?

I am experimenting with sending mail from my AS/400 over a dialup PPP line.
This would be for a once in a while thing, I won't be receiving mail over my
dialup.

The mail never gets to the destination.  The SMTP flight recorder shows this
message:

The domain name is what is defined in my TCP/IP Host domain info.  I used
names that I liked.  I don't particularly care what they are.

Note that I do pay an ISP to host the Link400.com domain for me, so that
does exist on the internet.

I suspect it is the CCA170 part.  I can't eliminate this because it is my
system name?
