Firstly, thanks to Rob Berendt, Carl Galgano, and Pat Barber. Also, Glenn
Ericson who responded privately.

I've answered as many of your questions as I can here:

First, Rob's -

>There are multiple ways of doing this. I am going to assume that you are
really new to the AS/400 so I'll start with some basics.

Yes, I've only had this machine under my care for a month and I've never
seen one before this :-p. Thank you very much for including the commands.

>First, what version of the Operating System are you running? One way to
tell is to type in the command DSPPTF. The version of the OS >will be at
the top of the screen.

The command worked but I didn't see anything that resembled a version
number, there were some numbers in a PTF column, MF02455 release V2R1M0,
MF02398 rel V2R1Mo, MF02367 rel V2R1M0, MF00015 V2R1M0.

>Do you have Client Access or PC Support loaded on your system? To check
use the command DSPSFWRSC. The resource ID will begin >with four numbers
and then two letters, then a number. For example 5763XD1. Look for stuff
that has an X in position 5.
       - I've got AJSLX01 *BASE *CODE

>Do you have TCP/IP loaded on your system? To check use the command
DSPSFWRSC and look for a resource ID that begins with four >numbers and
ends with TC1. - None.

>Do you want to do this remote or local? - Local.

>To check for Ethernet or Token Ring use the command WRKHDWRSC *CMN -
This gave me 2507 and 6152 (5 times).

>To check for twinax use the command WRKHDWRSC *LWS - This gave me 6140 (3
times).

And then Pat's -

1. What model As/400 ..... dspsysval qmodel - B10

2. What sort of communications you have on 400 & what modem - none that I
know of, I wanted to know if I could upgrade the machine to make this
possible for a reasonable cost.

3. What version of Os/400 ... wrklicpgm VxRx - This gave me:
 Procedure not found

4. What is your PC running OS/2, W/95 , W/98 etc,etc - I have a choice
of machines with NT or W95

5. Do you have any PC's attached to 400 now ? - Nope

6. Do you have an Ethernet adapter ? - I hope the above information will
answer this question.

Thanks a lot!
