This being an emergency, and the file not being a production file, and 
having only a few records, try FIXNBR(*INPUTPACKED)  You'll get a message 
in the joblog for every field that's invalid in every record you read.

If this were a production file, I'd test the data rather than let the 
system "fix" the number:

You can test for 3 conditions:
HI (97) - field contains numbers or it is a 1 char field containing A-R
LO (98) - field contains leading blank(s) and numbers
EQ (99) - field contains all blanks

Testing it yourself lets you print an error report so you can get the data 
provider to clean up the data before you get it.  If that's not feasable, 
at least having the report will tell your user that the problem hasn't 
changed.  What happens when the data provider has a problem and all the 
records have invalid data?  If you have an error report, your user will get 
100 pages instead of the 1 they're used to -- they will know that something 
has changed.  FIXNBR won't tell your user anything.
