But don't we end up with a confusing thousands of different versions of the OS? This is the same problem we have with application software. There reaches a point where PTF's for the application can't be applied because the underlying code has been changed so much it doesn't even resemble the initial version. Each PTF then has to be hand-applied. We don't even pay maintenance our some of our software because the modifications are too expensive to apply and a lot of them fix things we have all ready fixed or don't use. -----Original Message----- From: boldt@ca.ibm.com [SMTP:boldt@ca.ibm.com] Sent: Thursday, March 25, 1999 12:21 PM To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com Subject: RE: CNN / InfoWorld article on Linux vs. NT (with some AS/400 ref eren ces) Furthermore, since source code is available, anyone can debug and fix any problems, resulting in code of exceptionally high quality. I'd say this is very good! +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
