I believe you only need to vary on the line and then the controller. The device(s) should vary on automatically. If the configuration is a primary station I believe the AS/400 will dial automatically. One way to check this is to create a duplicate configuration, change it as we've discussed, put in a local phone number (like at your desk), and vary it on.
