MQ Series could be the way to go or you could look at a file to file type of
approach using products from companies like Vision Solutions, DataMirror, or
Lakeview Technologies.  We are currently using DataMirror to 'propogate' data
from our AS/400 to a poorly selected NT/Oracle warehouse management solution.
At this time I am ambivelent to the DataMirror product (it has it's up and down
sides).  It was 'selected' for us by our wonderfule WMS vendor so I am a little
biased against it....  :)

Conceptually, we like the data base integration approach because we can do this
with minimal or no changes to applications on either side.

Couple of thoughts based on our NT/Oracle integration with our existing AS/400
application:  this would be much easier if both sides were an AS/400;  we
probably would still select an 'integration' product like DataMirror, Oracle
RDBMS has nothing over UDB/400, and an AS/400 solution would have been as
functional and cheaper (the 170's are great machines).......

Also, when you have a product like DataMirror you do have some neat options for
other applications - data warehousing for example.......

I am currently specifying an interface from an AS400 based sales order
system (JBA) to an external warehousing system.  At the moment, I do not
know which warehousing system this will be or indeed the platform (AS400, NT
or Unix).  I have done this before but the difference this time is that the
interface is to be done interactively, not in batch, in the past I have used
FTP to send and retrieve files to the remote host.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a possible solution to the problem.  This
is still at an early stage so I have a good chance of pushing this the way I
want it to go (AS400).  Whatever the remote host is to be, I am sure it will
be running TCP/IP so would the use of sockets be the way to go?  If so where
do I start (RPG preferred).
