There are probably a number of ways to tackle this. IBM has an MQ Series
middleware product that can establish a transaction environment between
the two systems. Runs on lots of platforms including AS/400, NT, and
most flavors of UNIX. You can write your own ILE or C sockets programs.
There are examples floating around this mailing list and the AS/400
usenet group. I think you might be able to find some sample code on the
News/400 site (http://www.news400.com). If you are interested in a
commercial product we have a sockets client/server application. More
