I tried to use the HiT ODBC driver with Access a couple of years ago
for file maintenance (instead of DFU, DBU, etc). Whenever I tried to
update a field to a space, "it" tried to make the field null on the AS/400.
HiT said it was a M$ problem and M$ said it was a ODBC problem.
I eventually gave up on it. It also would not let me connect to an AS/400
database if there were any indexes with logical fields (by this I mean
there were any logical files with fields that didn't exist in the physical
like substrings, concats, etc) built over it. This meant the main files
in the system couldn't be used because we allowed lower case for
names and then used a logical with a translate when searching. At
least I could always rely on CA/ODBC to do the right thing.
