I don't really allow it as much as I can, but have you tried to
buy software without a maintenance contract? And then not
get the software to work and have no recourse?

There was one company that we bought a time clock from that
we didn't buy the maintenance contract from. There was a bug
in their software that wouldn't allow certain things to work, and
you know what they did? They actually sent us the next version
FREE. No charge. And it fixed the bugs. And one time the time
clock malfunctioned, and since it was under warranty they sent us
a new one. FREE. No charge. I guess they didn't learn from
the Billy Bob school of software, but I guarantee you that we will
be using ETC time clocks for any time clocks we need.

That is just the way things are supposed to be.

Then I've had companies that I buy their software, it doesn't work,
and they won't fix it without payment. IBM is a very good example
of this. Although it is possible to get a fix for free after you jump though
a few hoops.

How many people here are aware of what you have to do to get a
CUM tape for your OS from IBM without having to pay?

Very good question, yes, WHY have we let it become a standard?

Jim Langston
